PETALING JAYA: A four-year-old boy is believed to have died from injuries suffered when the airbag of a car inflated during a multi-vehicle collision near Jerteh, Terengganu, today.

Harian Metro identified the boy as Mohd Syawal Amsyar Mohd Fakhruzi from Subang Jaya, Selangor. He was confirmed as dead on arrival at Hospital Besut.

It said the accident involved three vehicles and happened at Kampung Gong Kemunting, Jerteh, about noon.

The car was driven by the boy’s father, Mohd Fakhruzi Sepian, 32, from Kampung Raja to Jerteh.

Besut Police Chief Supt Mohd Zamri Mohd Rowi told the Malay daily that the car was involved in a collision with another car in front.

“The victim was in the front passenger seat at the time. He was hit by the airbag when it inflated and his neck is believed to have broken after the impact.”

Zamri said the boy’s mother, Norma Mohd, 30, sitting behind was not hurt.

“The other two motorists were also not hurt.”
