A man was reportedly beaten up by his wife after he failed to give her money to settle her debts.

According to a report by The New Straits Times, the incident took place at the couple's flat unit in Bukit Mertajam at 6pm on Wednesday.

The 35-year-old housewife had reportedly demanded some money from her husband, who works as a mechanic, to settle some of her debts.

When the 38-year-old man refused, saying that he was broke after spending money on other things, the woman reportedly flew into a rage as she allegedly started punching and kicking the man's face.

The couple's stunned 17-year-old son tried to break up the fight, but was reportedly scolded by the woman for siding with his father.

Enraged, the woman then allegedly left the home with their 15-year-old daughter.

Meanwhile, Seberang Perai Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid told the daily that the police are tracking down the woman to facilitate investigation.
